2-7 Lowball Poker Rules

During a game of deuce to seven lowball – which is often referred to as Kansas City lowball – then typically, whatever is considered the worst hand which clings to convention makes up the winning hand. So, a straight and a flush will count against your hand, basically destroying its value.

Aces exist only as high cards. This means that the best hand will consist of 7 5 4 3 2, and the cards do not have to be the same suit. This also means that when you have a 5 4 3 2 A, it is not a straight. It is however an ace high hand, so it will win over other hands which are ace high and it will win over pairs. However, it will lose if someone else has a king high. The highest pair involves a pair of aces. Thus, a pair of aces can be beaten out by any other kind of pair.

Ace to five lowball and deuce to seven lowball basically have the same rules. However, there are some differences. For instance, a 7 5 4 3 2 is considered the best hand – if it is comprised of two different suits, at the very least.

Prior to the draw, you have to take an exposed card if it is a 7, a 5, a 4, a 3, or a 2. All other exposed cards – sixes are included – have to be replaced.

Finally, checks and raises are only allowed after the draw takes place. Furthermore, if you have a seven or better, then you do not have to bet.
